Sharing my love for K.R.I.T

NAME: Jasmine
CITY, STATE: Houston, TX
AGE: 24
ABOUT:Underground HiP-HoP Connoisseur who loves to share how hip-hop has saved me.
Dear Big K.R.I.T.:
Dear Justin,
Even as I’m typing this I’m praying for the words to properly express how you & your music have truly impacted my life. Your music feeds my spirit, speaks to my heart and gives me the hope I need to continue to pursue my dreams. Every time I listen to your music I’m inspired and eternally grateful for an artist like you. I believe its your honesty, humbleness and sincerity that makes
me such a fan. I never seize a moment to share your music with others in hopes that they will be blessed like I am. Continue doing exactly what your doing and never lose your faith. Thank you for being you.

How did you discover Big K.R.I.T.?
I discovered K.R.I.T. while listening to Wiz Khalifa’s mixtape“Kush & OJ”, the feature on “Glass House” made me want to hear more of his work. The first mixtape I listened to was “K.R.I.T. Wuz Here”. I was so impressed with his material that I downloaded every mixtape he had to date. And over 1 year later I am the biggest K.R.I.T. fan you will ever meet.
  • They hollerin there he go again.
What’s his name, where his folk?
Call him Kurt, call him KRIT?,
Fuck that nigga I ain’t sure.
He got beats, heard him flow, like a couple years ago.
    He alright, kinda tight,
Shawty like him on the low…” -Made Alot
What is your favorite Big K.R.I.T. song? Why?
Its so hard to pick a favorite but I if I have to choose one it would be “Something”, that song touches me in a special way. Its all my thoughts and feeling comprised in a soulful and lyrical song. My first time hearing it tears literally filled my eyes because I never thought it was possible for someone to share my exact feelings on so many different levels.

How has Big K.R.I.T. inspired you?
K.R.I.T. has inspired me to continue to pursue my dreams in the music industry. Whenever I am discouraged or unsure of my path, listening to his music reminds me exactly why I want it so bad and enhances my love for the craft. He has reassured me that being yourself is enough and you don’t have to conform to get where you want to be in life.

What is your favorite Big K.R.I.T. experience/story?
My favorite experience would have to be when I finally got the chance to meet K.R.I.T. up close and personal. I had the chance to talk to him on skype the year before but seeing him live in the flesh was epic. I walked into the meet and greet at SF2 in Houston and my life was forever changed. The owner of the store personally introduced us, she says “Hey K.R.I.T. this girl right here loves you she’s been out here spreading the word and supporting the movement”. As I walked up to him I felt my entire body get heated, this is the man I listen to every single day it felt so surreal that he was standing right in front of me. He says “Man I really appreciate that” then flashed that killer smile. I was telling myself not to stutter when I began to speak.
My first words “Man I really love you” everything I had planned to say went out the window, that wasn’t exactly what I wanted but it was perfect. He said  “I love you too shawty” & I felt my heart melting in actuality it was my face, I was so nervous I started to sweat (which is why I look so shiny in the photo, LOL). I brought with me a crisp copy of the XXL freshman issue which he was very eager to sign and asked me where I wanted him to do so. Then the moment I had been waiting for, my Big K.R.I.T. &Grillade vinyl “The Wuz Here Sessions” had just came in a couples weeks before and I couldn’t wait for him to sign it. I knew everyone in the room wanted to know what was in the white box I was toting under my arm. When I opened the package the look on K.R.I.T.’s face was priceless, he said it was the his first time signing one and he was really impressed. I went on to tell him how much of an inspiration he was to me and that I could really feel how blessed he was, the glow was all over him. When I left SF2 I was different, that was one of the best experiences of my life, something that I will always keep close to me. The night ended with K.R.I.T. killing the stage at Warehouse live by far the BEST concert I’ve ever been to and I can’t wait to see him again.

What makes you a Big K.R.I.T. fan?
What makes me a fan of K.R.I.T. is my dedication to his movement, I don’t keep his music to myself I share it with anyone who is willing to listen. I’ve been to 3 concerts so far and there will be many more to come. I believe love is a action word and the best way to show K.R.I.T. I’m down for the cause is to support him in whatever he does live concerts, merchandise, & adding to his rapidly growing fan base. I appreciate all that K.R.I.T. has done and I’m ready for more. I want him to know that he has a true fan in me. I love him and respect what he is doing. I’m a fan because I don’t doubt what he can do, the sky is the limit for K.R.I.T.. I feel honored to call myself a fan and I honestly don’t know how anyone could hear his music and not become one.

If you could ask Big K.R.I.T. anything, what would it be?
I would ask him what would I need to do to become apart of the Multi Alumni family? Or if there is anyway I could intern with his label.

5. Violin Practice (Prod. by Soriginal) by dokedollaz

A few days ago I came across this guy Ray Ellis via twitter (where I seem to find the diamonds in the rough), and I got a chance the hear a few tracks from his project "Document the Occasion". For me there are many factors that go into a first listen, I take EVERYTHING into consideration. Delivery, beat selection, & lyrical content weighing the heaviest. Initially I thought dude was a singer because they tend to go for the use of their real names but he is indeed a rapper and right out the gate I could tell I would dig the music. First track I jammed was "violin practice" I immediately expected a sweet beat to match the title. Ray comes in ultra smooth and eats on the track, more importantly his delivery is nice and I get the feeling that its actually him not an attempt to be someone else. As I continued to listen to a few more tracks I hit up Ray to get more insight on him, his music, what he has going on right now and what's to come in the future. Here's what he had to say:

"I have been creating music since I was about 13 years old. Recorded my first song in my moms office. The mic I used was on one of those headsets that wrap around your head, you know the kind hook into the computer. Ha, you couldn't tell me I didn't have studio quality back then. I have been a student of Music (not just Hip Hop) since. Some artist that I have always got inspiration from were Eminem, Little Brother, Gorillaz, A Tribe Called Quest, 9th Wonder, Daft Punk, and Lupe Fiasco. There's definitely more but those are a few. I released my first EP Mixtape "Document The Occasion" in January of this year. I am currently working on my second Mixtape that i am VERY, excited about. I'm not sticking to just Hip Hop on this one though. I'm stepping into different genres and also having some well known featured artist. I am currently building a home studio which will be complete by June. As soon I get that up and running I will have a release date for my next project. I'm working on getting signed under 9th Wonders label, IWWMG (It's a Wonderful World Music Group). It's going to happen, just got to keep grinding until it does..Stay Tuned."

For a music lover its a joy to hear to something fresh and know that there is promise in the future of the artist, not only am I excited to hear what's next but I also can't wait to see what comes of a possible IWWMG deal. As you may have noticed from previous posts I am a huge fan of 9th's movement and the artists on the label. I hope to one day intern at IWWMG in marketing and promotions, who knows me and Ray might cross paths very soon! Until then keep watching and enjoy the music. I do this for the love, this is pretty fckn dope musik!
