[Pretty fckn dOPE MIXTAPES]

I promise REAL HIP-HOP still exists and the best part is its FREE so you would be a fool to let this shit pass you by! This is pretty fckn dOPE musik!!
-@dOKEdOLLAZ

Rapsody, the first lady signed to 9th wonder's label Its a Wonderful World Music Group. She's from North Carolina which is dOPE cus I'm fckn wit J.Cole heavy & he's from there too, must be something in the water. This is her first solo project she's been doing her group thing with Kooley high for a couple years. I'm very hard to please when it comes to female rappers, last chick I fell in love wit was Lauryn Hill & she left me lol. But seriously this mixtape definitely gets the pretty fckn dOPE musik stamp. Of course everything 9th Wonder puts his hand in is amazing and this is no different. She holds her own lyrically and she has her own style not to mention the productions is beyond amazing. I advise you to put a trash can near you cus this shit is sick you might wanna throw up!

Curt@!ns aka Dope boy C, I've been rockin wit this dude for a minute now I love love love his style the whole idgaf, tell it like it is, black power, real hip-hop style really works for me cus its honest and you get that vibe when you listen to him. There's nothing more awesome than meaningful music, every track makes a statement and I really appreciate that. This is the kinda hip-hop that motivates you to be better and appreciate who you are as a person, in one word its #KILLER so download that shit, jam, tell a friend, and become a fan!!

Thee Tom Hardy, I came across this dude via 9th Wonder's site, again any artist this man fcks with is worth a listen because he's a genius. I had already heard him featured on one of my favorite tracks "Honda Accord" from Rapsody's mixtape Return of the B-Girl. I downloaded and jammed the entire mixtape front to back which is very impressive because we all know the odds of loving every track on a mixtape these days. Anyway white boy has much spit, doesn't try to be anyone but himself which I love. Also Dj Green Lantern hosted the tape and I love that guy. This one has a nice story teller feel, personal experiences and real events all packed into rhymes...ENJOY!!

[I PUT ON FA MY CITY] H-TOWN PRODUCER & ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

Well people I'm back, haven't did a post in over 2 months but my love for the musik got me back on my blog shit!! I got the opportunity to chop it up with a artist and a producer from my city (HOUSTON), I'm always excited about new artists but even more excited when they're from home. They love music like I do and they are grinding hard to make a name for themselves so we already have plenty in common. We got thanksgiving leftovers, J. Cole playing, & a phase 10 game going to set the mood.

Coby rap artist, 22 & The Southern Gentlemen (S.Gee) producer, 25

Q: How long have you been involved with musik?

Coby: I've been rapping in the booth for 7 months

S. Gee: I've been making music seriously since 2007 and experimenting with beats since 2003

Q: Coby you've only been doing this for 7 months O_O? Wow, how did all this come about?

Coby: Well I've always been involved with musik, I've been playing the drums since I was two. This rapping is something totally different though, I've had people tell me I should rap but I never thought anything of it. One day in 2009 I spit a freestyle at a friends house and the response was crazy, people actually liked it so I just got serious about it from there.

Q: I know you guys go way back, but what's the nature of your relationship as far as the musik?

S. Gee: We went to Sterling high school together so we've known each other for some years now, We linked up in 2009 on the musik tip. I'm Coby's manager and I produce some of his tracks my goal is to get us on the map.

Q: I know personally how important it is to vibe with the people you work with, how do you keep focus and remain on the same page to get the job done?

Coby: When it comes to music I see S. Gee as a really good friend, I know he looks out for my best interest and we both want the same thing. When we're working we have fun, laugh, joke and do musik!

Q: Who are some of your influences?

S. Gee: Quincy Jones for his versatility, longevity, & knowledge of music.
Kenneth Gamble & Leon Huff for their musical influence on the Philly Soul sound & deep messages in the music.
Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis for their longevity and the quality of music.
Teddy Riley: His chord progressions are like no other as well as just being an all-around producer.
Timbaland: His versatility, style, & how he dares to be different, also his ability to use any type of sound.
Just Blaze: The way he samples, versatility, style, & his drum selections.

Coby: Drake cause he set a nice tone for new artist, Jay-Z, Outkast, T.I., Nas, & J.Cole to name a few.

Q: S. Gee what are your thoughts on Coby as an artist? What does he bring to the table?

S. Gee: Authenticity! He's not a trend follower, knowing him personally I know he's independent not just in music but as a person. He doesn't do anything unless he believes in it himself.

Q: Since we're all from Houston I'm excited to ask, what are your thoughts on Houston musik as a whole?

Coby: I'm a fan of Scarface and Devin the dude, I would love to collab with them. That's really it for the Houston music.

S. Gee: Houston music is some of the best music ever made but, some artists are blind and scared to put the music on the map. I do believe that if people like us keep grinding and connecting with others we can make Houston known for so much more musically.

Q: Ultimately what is your goal with musik? What do you wish to accomplish?

Coby: My biggest goal is to grow a fan base from now until I start working on my next project. Do as many shows as I can and get the music out to the people, make a name for myself.

S. Gee: I want to be this generations Quincy Jones! In a business aspect I wanna be something like Warren Buffett.

I've really enjoyed you guys can't wait to see what's to come, before we go give the people contact information, show dates, etc.

"The No Namers" did some production on the mixtape as well @charijblidge & @chelafierce follow them they are really dope!

Coby dropped his debut mixtape "Revelations" on 10/29. I've had the chance to check it out and my first thought was he's been doing this for 7 months? No lie dudes out here on their 3rd & 4th project aren't doing this well. I hear the rough edges and room for improvement but I also hear alot of potential I'm excited to see him go up from here. I also dig the production selection its VERY NICE, S. Gee produced two of the tracks on the mixtape, "listen" & "ovation", a few tracks were produced by two females who go by "The No Namers" one from Houston the other from Kansas, I think that's pretty dope! Below is the mixtape available for free download so please check it out, there's also a sample video of S. Gee's production skills, and as always feedback is welcome, this is pretty fckn dOPE MUSIK!

P.S. -S.Gee won the phase 10 game but there WILL be a rematch, this war is far from over.

Here's a same of The Southern Gentlemen's production...Enjoy!

[Underground Spotlight: YFame & Apollo the Great]

First things first introduce yourself to the people who are unfamiliar with you, age, where your from & anything we should know.

YFame: I am YFame. Emcee, Music Producer, Songwriter & Graphic Designer. I'm from Philadelphia, PA. I'm 20 years old & I've been making music since 10, so that's 10 years I've been doing this.

Apollo: Waddup! I go by the name Apollo the Great. I'm 21 and I'm from Camden, NJ!

Q: What are your thoughts on the rap game right now from a artist point of view, what is it lacking & what would it take to restore what it once was, if ever?

YFame: The rap game could be better, but it's not as bad as it was a few years ago. Too many beefs, too much controversy, not enough GOOD music. I think the music is lacking substance (mainstream rap music that is). The rap game is also lacking unity, The area I see with the most unity is the South, they support each other there. As far as other places (mainly speaking of the east coast), there's no unity. Everybody's out to slice each other's throats. That could also be what it takes to restore it. Unity.

Apollo: I think the game is always changing, unfortunately the game is lacking players that really love the game!! Most rappers these days don't have passion in their music. Its all about the money which I can respect, but I feel there needs to be a balance. It will take a person like me to change that. One who doesn't follow trends, but sets them!

Q: What do you feel your music will bring to the hiphop community & what makes you different from everyone else doing it?

YFame: My music will bring the emotion back. I'll make it OK to be vulnerable on a song. I keep it honest and I put EVERYTHING on the table. I would say I'm different from everybody else because, musically, I simply DO WHAT I WANT. There are no boundries for me & my fans know that. If I want to try something musically, I do it. Everybody has a lane. "A" lane. I have MANY.

Apollo: My music will bring lyrics to the mainstream. Make it cool to know how to rap again lol.. But at the same time I'm not one dimensional, I can make pretty much all kinds of music & that's what makes me different.

Q: When your not making your own music what artists do you listen to? What artists inspire you & who would you like to work with in the future?

YFame: Kanye West is at the top of my list then there's Eminem. Those are the two artists I enjoy listening to and would want to work with in the future. I could also see myself working with B.O.B., Mike Posner & maybe Ryan Leslie. Dope artists & musicians.

Apollo: I listen to Nas, Tupac, Jay-Z, Biggie, & Wu Tang, mostly all old music or veterans in the game! I want to work with almost everybody I can, but definitely Nas.

Q: What are your short & long term goals for your music. What do you ultimately wish to accomplish?

YFame: As far as rap goes, I just want to be mentioned when the "Top Rappers" discussion comes up. Production wise, I want to produce music for the whole industry & beyond. Music production is my passion. I'm hoping to land movie and game soundtracks, and commercial music, etc. Let's hope my music get's me a sponsorship from Converse too. (Haha)

Apollo: I am going on tour with Joel Ortiz in October so my short term goal is to complete that and double or triple my fan base...lol.  Also finish my next mixtape "Apollo 21" set to drop this fall.. Long term I want to be recognized for the degree of talent that I have! I believe my name will be somewhere in the top on that long list of great mc's.

Q: Anything extra you wanna let the people know, shoutouts, dates, info, & links?

YFame: Shoutouts: My bro Apollo The Great , My manager "Philly", Aubrey Green, My whole WondaMuzik family, & Everybody supporting me & even my haters, Thanks to everybody.
Dates: My next mixtape " The Somebody-ish Nobody" is looking to be released toward the end of this month (September 2010)

Dates: Sept 30th Brooklyn, NY Joell Ortiz and Apollo the Great!!! We shuttin the city down!!!

If you have read up to this point then you can already see these dudes are serious about this musik shit, bringing creativity, individuality, & vulnerability to the forefront of their musik. I respect the hustle & the movement 100%, the uniqueness of both are artists is what I admire the most, I love to see people who are truly passionate about the musik they create & don't strive to be anything but themselves. I've been following both artists for quite some time & I'm enjoying the growth process and the variety of subject content they provide. Posted below are my favorite songs from each artist right now, I think these tracks are good starters if you haven't already heard their musik. So check it out, enjoy, and follow the movement, I foresee big things poppin for YFame & Apollo the Great! This is pretty fckn dOPE MUSIK!!

[SMOKERS CLUB INFO & BET Cypher]

Good music & weed smokers unite for the Smokers Club tour which kicks off 10/1 in Toronto. If you've been paying any attention to underground hip hop then you already know that these artists have been putting major smoke in the air. Curren$y, Smoke Dza, & Big K.R.I.T(who I briefed you on in my previous post) all sharing a stage is truly a smokers dream. I've already purchased my ticket to the Houston show on 10/23 & I suggest you check the dates(posted below) and find out if the tour is coming to your city because this is a must see. The combination of talent is absolutely genius, each artist brings something special to the table. I like to think of them as Kush, Dro, & Purp, they all get you high, but in different distinctive ways. Mac Miller will also be making an appearance as a special guest, his mixtape K.I.D.S(Kickin incredibly dope shit) is super official  make sure you check that out, the download link is provided below. This is pretty fckn dOPE MUSiK.

This shit is pretty fckn dOPE DOWNLOAD NOW!!!

[BET Cypher list & video]

Cypher 1: Reema Major, x Nick Javas x Laws

Cypher 2: Vado x Fonzworth Bentley x Raychester

Cypher 3: Raekwon x Yelawolf x Wiz Khalifa x Bones Brigante

Cypher 4: Rev Run x (and sons) x Ice Cube (and sons)

Cypher 5: Tyga x Kuniva x Royce Da 5′9″ x Diamond

This BET Cypher should be very interesting, I'm happy to see Vado, Law, Wiz, & Raekwon listed but Tyga, Diamond & Kuniva are very questionable. I think I would have did the match ups a lil different, like switching Royce & Brigante. Either way I feel that this is good considering the network, I honestly never have  high expectations for anything involving BET so its never really a let down. I am anxious to see the outcome so I will tune in to the show.

[The Big K.R.I.T Starter Kit]

If you don't know who Big K.R.I.T (King Remembered in Time) is then this is especially for you. Whether your a die hard hiphop fan like myself or you just love to hear a good tune, take time to listen to his music, I'm certain you won't be disappointed. The first time I ever heard him was on "glass house" from the Wiz Khalifa mixtape Kush & OJ, I knew then I was gonna be a fan. K.R.I.T embodies EVERYTHING that an artist needs to captivate the listener and maintain longevity in the game, not to mention he produces many of his tracks as well. His Mississippi southern vibe, mixed with passion, lyrical content, and amazing production makes for incredible musik. There's a little something for everyone in his musik he speaks on real life struggles, relationships, religion, and so much more. He offers everything that hiphop needs right now, I've never played his musik for anyone & they didn't love it. DON'T SLEEP on this dude he's going places & you don't wanna be left behind. This is pretty fckn dOPE MUSiK!!
